Piano Instruction Bernardsville
Piano instruction for anyone interested in learning how to play piano in Bernardsville begins with creativity and mastering keyboard skills.
For students to master basic piano, students learn keyboard techniques to facilitate fingering and hand positions. As they begin piano instruction, students become more familiar with the keyboard and learn to play scales and simple arpeggios, while developing muscle memory for basic intervals. Students gain the ability to sight read two part treble and bass compositions.
Piano Music Theory
Piano instruction in Music Theory I includes the basic materials and procedures of tonal music. Students are introduced to elements of music theory, including scales, key signatures, intervals, triads, seventh chords, Roman numeral and figured bass analysis. Four-part writing and first species counterpoint may be introduced. Aural skills are developed with the introduction to "fixed-do" solfege.
Intermediate Music Theory II piano instruction continues the presentation of the material and procedures of tonal music with the study of harmonic syntax as it relates to tonal cadences, intermediary harmonies modulation and tonicization in major and minor, and fundamental concepts of diatonic sequences. Aural skills are developed with "fixed-do" solfege primarily in minor.
Advanced Music Theory III continues the presentation of the material and procedures of tonal music with the study of elements of melodic and rhythmic figuration, dissonance and chromaticism, modal mixture, and an advanced examination of applied chords and diatonic modulation. Ear training skills are developed with chromatic alterations.
Piano Harmony Studies
This area of piano instruction begins with a review of the rudiments of music (scales, modes, key signatures, time signatures, rhythm, meter, intervals, and basic acoustical principles) and a review of important compositional trends that have affected the course of Western musical history. Students are then introduced to the triad and seventh chords in all inversions. All theoretical study is accompanied by listening, score analysis, and actual rudimentary writing.
